Whispers in the Walls

Sure! Here’s a short horror story for you:

Whispers in the Walls

In a small, forgotten town, a decrepit house stood at the end of a twisted road. Locals spoke of the Widow Gray, who had vanished years ago, leaving her home to rot. Curious about the legends, a group of friends decided to spend a night inside.
As darkness fell, they lit candles and explored the dust-covered rooms. The air was thick with the smell of mold and something else—something sweetly rotten. They laughed off the creaking floors, but then came the whispers. Faint at first, like the rustling of leaves, they grew clearer, beckoning them deeper into the house.

“Did you hear that?” one friend asked, his voice trembling.

“It’s just the wind,” another replied, though unease washed over them.

They gathered in the living room, but the whispers persisted, coiling around them like fog. Each friend felt an inexplicable pull toward a narrow staircase leading to the attic. Against their better judgment, they ascended.

At the top, they found an old trunk. The whispers intensified, urging them to open it. Inside lay a collection of mementos—a locket, a diary, and faded photographs of a woman whose eyes seemed to follow them. The diary revealed a chilling truth: Widow Gray had not disappeared; she had been consumed by the very house, her spirit trapped within its walls.

Suddenly, the door slammed shut. The friends screamed, but their voices were swallowed by the growing cacophony of whispers. They felt icy fingers grasping at them, dragging them closer to the trunk.

One by one, they vanished into the shadows, their terrified screams echoing into silence. The last friend, now alone, realized too late that the whispers were not just a warning—they were an invitation.

The next morning, the townspeople saw the house standing silent, unchanged. But when night fell, whispers floated through the air, drawing in the next curious souls.
